The inception of Secondary School Teachers’ Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) was predicated on the Supreme Court ruling of 1995. Its birth was necessitated by the under representation of Secondary School Teachers by the then only teachers’ union in Zambia. Upon receiving its Recognition Agreement by the Government of the Republic of Zambia in 1996, SESTUZ sprang into action,
effectively championing the interests of its members across the country.

In tandem with its Mission Statement, SESTUZ has, throughout its existence represented members effectively at various levels, salvaging them from injustice and striving that they are
remunerated adequately and equitably.

Membership of the Union is open to all Secondary School Trained Degree and Diploma holding teachers employed in Public and Private Colleges, Secondary, Primary and Community Schools and other Public and Private Institutions including all full-time Union Officials.

Our role is to be the voice of teachers by effectively representing their interests at various fronts. Our vision highlights the union’s ambition to expand its membership base knowing too well that strength and unity will bolster our collective power. Evidently, the union has grown its membership to the present 23000 as at January 2024

The SESTUZ Secretariat which is currently housed at Public Service Pensions House serves as the central hub for operations and member engagement.
